A beach camp experience for our teens

During the July school holidays we were delighted to be able to take our 43 teenagers on a 3-day beach camp. In fact, it was the first ever camp that we’ve taken our teenagers on – and what a memorable experience it was! We hosted them at Soetwater Resort, which is located on the stunning Cape Peninsula coastline, and we kicked things off with a bang; an invigorating obstacle course, which was a great way to get the children working together to overcome challenges. They then spent their first night braaing marshmallows, painting nails and watching movies.

Our second day of the camp was a creative arts day where the children got to explore different creative expressions. We had a host of people come in to share their talents – from drumming and dancing to singing and beading. This gave everyone the chance to explore these arts and find the one that resonated most with them. And what better way to end such an amazing day than with a very funky disco!

Each day also started with an early morning walk or run on the beach, because we believe it’s important for the children to be active and healthy. While the third day was spent reflecting on their activities, as well as attending a talk on sexual awareness.

Overall it was a wonderful opportunity for the social workers to bond with our youth. It was also a great way to ensure that the teenagers were kept busy and stimulated during the school holidays. We are very happy that we were able to provide such an unforgettable experience for our children and it’s definitely one that we hope to repeat every year.
