This event remains one of our most popular and successful fundraising events, with keen cyclists from all corners of the globe hopping on their bikes to raise funds for Home from Home. This year was the 40th anniversary of the Cape Town Cycle Tour and what was meant to be a momentous occasion turned into disappointment for over 35 000 cyclists who were unable to ride due to strong winds, which led to the race being cancelled.
By race day, our team of 15 cyclists had already managed to raise nearly R450 000 through sponsorships and fundraising campaigns – a fantastic achievement! Although they were not able to take part in the race, we made sure we treated them to a fun filled weekend, including a tour of some of our homes as well as a cycle through Stellenbosch – which meant they still got to see some of Cape Town from the seat of their bicycles!
Thanks must also go to Constantia Glen for once again providing our team with a fantastic wine tasting get-together at their vineyard. The team thoroughly enjoyed the evening getting to know each other in this picturesque setting.
We are so grateful for the valuable contribution these individuals have made towards improving the lives of all the children in our care and we look forward to seeing them again in 2018 to complete their race.
