Our foster moms and staff were treated to a fabulous Women’s Day breakfast at the Alphen Hotel in Constantia, thanks to The Kove Collection and Unitrans. The significance of this day is in remembering one of the largest demonstrations staged in this country’s history, when 20 000 women of all races marched to Pretoria’s Union Buildings on 9 August 1956, to present a petition against the carrying of passes by women to the prime minister, JG Strijdom.
Guest speaker Debbie Kirsten, inspirational speaker and wife of ex-South African cricket captain Gary Kirsten gave a beautiful talk on the importance of women and mothers ‘filling their own cup first, so they may fill the cups of others’. She also spoke about how her faith helped her through many tough times as a wife and mother to a famous sportsperson. The moms had a fantastic time and left feeling refreshed and replenished.
