Home from Home Challenge Warriors

Become a Home from Home ‘Challenge Warrior’
The children in our care have been identified by the state as needing care and protection due to being orphaned, abused and/or neglected. They have faced challenges in their young lives that most of us are blessed never to be confronted with.
Currently Home from Home supports 200 children and young people however, in South Africa there are many more children who are still requiring placements. As we celebrate our 20th anniversary this year, join us by setting a personal or sporting challenge for yourself and raise funds for our organisation. Becoming a Home from Home Challenge Warrior is a wonderful way to show grit and gratitude for being able to choose your challenge rather than have it thrust upon you.

Our Challenge Warriors

Courageous Karli
10-year-old swimmer from Melkbosstrand makes waves
A 10-year-old girl from Melkbosstrand has set a world record by becoming the youngest person to swim from Robben Island to Blouberg. With each stroke, she defied the odds and inspired awe and admiration from her community.
Karli’s dream was not only about personal accomplishment; it was fuelled by a desire to help fostered children at Home from Home.

Pasteur
A new father’s first ultra marathon: Running for children in need
On his 38th birthday, Pasteur, a new father from Burundi, ran the Two Oceans ultra marathon for the very first time. A seasoned athlete who works for the Table Mountain Cableway Company and climbs the Platteklip route up Table Mountain in Cape Town a few times a week, Pasteur had never taken part in a race like this before. “This is not about personal achievement—it is for a far bigger cause,” he said enthusiastically.
With his newborn daughter cradled in his arms, Pasteur knew his life had changed forever. He now understands, more than ever, the importance of providing a safe, loving future for children. And on 5th April, his birthday, he didn’t run for himself, but for foster children at Home from Home NGO who, unlike his daughter, don’t have a family to rely on.
Pasteur wants to inspire others to join him in giving hope to those who need it the most.

Abongile, Tanya, and Athini
These three dedicated runners were gearing up to compete in the Two Oceans half marathon in early April. The rivalry was heating up as Abongile and Athini trained from the Home from Home Khayelitsha transition house where they lived. Thanks to the generous sponsorship from Brooks Running SA, who donated their running shoes, they had been reaching their weekly mileage goals and were ready for a tough contest!
Both Abongile and Athini grew up in one of our foster homes and were eager to give back to the organisation that supported them when their biological families couldn’t. Together, this determined exceeded their R21,000 target, and raised an incredible R23 500 while running 21 kilometres.
We cheered them on as they ran for a cause close to their hearts!
